Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I run the program?

Go through all the elements in the input form, changing the default numbers when necessary.  Then click the "SUBMIT" button at the bottom of the page to submit the input to the server.  An output of the simulation will be sent back from the server.

How do I read the outputs?

There are two parts in the output page.  The first part includes all the data entered in the simulation and the second part includes all the outcomes of the simulation. The outcomes of the simulation include:  Harvest Information and critical financial values of the simulation such as Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, Bare Land Value, and Optimal Final Harvest Age.

What should I do when an error message shows up after submission?

Follow the instructions in the error message and use the “BACK” button in the browser to return to the data that needs to be changed.  When making correction, be careful not to use the spacebar on the keyboard to delete numbers.  If a space is left, it may generate a "type mismatch" problem.  For data entered in Other Costs, Other Revenue and Harvest Regimes, if the Stand Age is empty, the program will ignore the data in other columns in the same row.  For final harvests, though, the system will generate an optimal age.

If that does not solve the problem, use the reset button on the bottom of the input page to reset all values to the defaults and reenter the values carefully.  If that still does not solve the problem, please report the problem to the webmaster.

How do I do sensitivity analysis?

Sensitivity analysis can be done by using the “BACK” button on the browser to go back to the input page.  The data can be changed and then resubmitted to the server. The results of each simulation can be retained by using the browser to save the outcome file.

How do I save my analysis?

You can save your analysis by saving the output file from the web browser. The output file include all inputs and outputs of an analysis. At the page you want to save, choose "File - Save As" from your browser menu. choose a folder and a file name you want to save and click save. If you see a text window: "This web page may not save correctly, would you like to save it anyway?", click "Yes". You can also copy the output file and paste it into a word processing or spreadsheet software.
